The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) was launched in April 2009 to work with the Departments for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to drive forward the Government’s ambition for Apprenticeships. The NAS has total responsibility for the delivery of Apprenticeships including advising employers, engaging with learner organisations, providing funding for Apprenticeship training and a web based Apprenticeship vacancies system. This system enables individuals to search and apply for live vacancies and allows employers, and their training providers to advertise their vacancies to a wide range of interested applicants. The NAS’ key objective is to create a significant growth in the number of employers offering Apprenticeships.

Bolt & Heeks Limited is a privately owned main contractor formed in 1964, specialising in refurbishment, restoration, new build, extension, alteration, M&E, retro-fit environmental improvement measures and DDA adaptation works.  Our client base covers the public and private sectors and we take a pride in the quality of our work, our outstanding service to clients and excellent contract management.

Our prime sectors are:
Education:  typically, the majority of our education works have been to occupied schools and so we have developed robust strategies to ensure our works do not impinge on the schools’ day-to-day activities.  Our education contracts range from new extensions or stand alone buildings, typically to house SureStart or Children’s Centres, to reconfiguration and refurbishment of existing premises.  We also have experience of supplying and fitting out modular buildings where schools require additional accommodation at short notice.

Residential:  our residential works cover both the private and public sectors.  In the private sector, working with managing agents and private landlords, we have considerable experience of carrying out internal and external refurbishment and redecoration works to mansion blocks as well as high-end refurbishment of individual houses.  In the public sector, we have built a number of individual houses, primarily for charities working with the elderly or disabled.  We have also extended and reconfigured individual council-owned properties to cater for larger families.

Restoration:  we have a solid track record of working on listed buildings, up to Grade II* level.  We have an established supply chain of master craftspeople so we can manage all traditional elements, such as lime plaster, for interior and exterior works.  Naturally, we have worked closely with English Heritage and on contracts where funding has come from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Finally, we have successfully completed a number of highly technical contracts, one example being alterations and modifications to the gauging and wet stock management systems, plus installation of a new enviroceptor, at Lippitts Hill, the Metropolitan Police’s helicopter fleet base.
